The Department of Art and Music Histories offers courses in most major periods of the history of arts and architecture from antiquity to the present. The research and teaching specialties of the art history faculty include Greek art and architecture, Byzantine and medieval art and architecture, early modern European art and architecture, 19th- and 20th-century European art, American and Indigenous art and architecture, South Asian art and architecture, Medievalism, and History of Photography.
Experience and work with the rich collections of the Syracuse University Art Museum, SU’s Special Collections Research Center, the Everson Museum of Art, and Light Work.
Travel to New York City as a senior to learn about professional opportunities in the art world by meeting with curators, auctioneers, art gallerists, museum professionals and Art & Music Histories alumni.
Receive individualized attention and mentoring from internationally recognized scholars.
The International Year One is the perfect pathway if you want a undergraduate degree from a UK, EU or US University but do not meet the requirements for direct entry.
The IY1 course provides an intensive combination of first year University subject modules with English language skills.
Following successful completion of the IY1 you will continue onto your second year degree study directly with the University of your choice.

Progressing students into Syracuse University receive the following merit awards for each
subsequent year of enrollment based on the cumulative GPA earned upon the completion of the 30 credit hours:
• A GPA between 3.25 and 3.49 is $10,000 per year
• A GPA between 3.5 and 3.74 is $15,000 per year
• A GPA greater than 3.75 is $20,000 per year
