Overview

At the postgraduate level, the pre-master’s provides either one term (10 weeks) or two terms (20 weeks) of preparation for entry into a 1-year master’s degree in engineering.

This course will help you build on your knowledge and develop new skills for the engineering industry related to electrical and electronic, mechanical and manufacturing, and management.

Engineering courses at the University of Greenwich are accredited by leading professional bodies. For example, the MSc Electrical and Electronic Engineering is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology as satisfying the further learning requirements for chartered engineer (CEng) registration. Individuals must hold a CEng-accredited honours degree as well as the accredited MSc for an exemption to CEng status.

To join this course you will need to have successfully a bachelor’s degree or equivalent and meet the English language requirements. We offer Pre-sessional English which is a 6 or 12-week extension course for those who may not yet meet the required English language standards for direct entry to our pathways.

The aim of this module is to continue to develop your existing English language ability to prepare you for study at masters level at the University of Greenwich, in particular, raise your performance from a minimum of 6.0 IELTS to 6.5 IELTS (with no skill below 5.5) or higher and to further increase linguistic competence and boost confidence to a higher level in the use of English in the context of postgraduate studies.

The aim of this module is to introduce you to the structure, demands and expectations of postgraduate study of business in the UK. There is an emphasis on the development of academic skills of particular relevance to study at postgraduate level.

This module provides students with the opportunity to familiarise themselves with a range of software tools that enable them to describe, analyse, and solve electrical circuits and electronic systems problems through computer simulations. Students can develop their practical computer laboratory and workshop skills and bring theory and practice together in devising and resolving a problem using the tools and techniques they have been studying. During the final project phase of the module, the students will be supervised and supported by their tutor.

This module is designed to equip students with the foundational knowledge of electrical engineering, appreciation of electrical engineering principles and techniques for solving circuit problems and application of techniques to practical problems. The module further acquaints students with the theory and application of Electronic circuits used at Radio Frequencies (RF); at these frequencies, both the circuit and the components behave differently. The electronic devices themselves need to be modelled more accurately to understand and utilise their behaviour to analogue signals of high frequency. Students learn how to describe the design and analysis of high-frequency electronic circuits from a mathematical and CAD perspective.

This module provides knowledge of quality engineering techniques and the necessary management systems and philosophies for their successful implementation. Students will develop an understanding of how various quality engineering techniques, including software tools, can be implemented throughout the product and manufacturing life cycle.

This module provides students with a strategic overview of which tools and techniques will be useful in improving operational effectiveness and a critical review of their theory and practice to develop the students understanding of process improvement techniques and how to select the right tool for the situation they face.

The module aims to introduce and develop English skills directly relevant to Engineering and Computing through the academic study of their practical applications in a workplace context. It aims to train and develop students’ knowledge and understanding of the theoretical, technical, and practical aspects of Engineering and Computing as academic subjects. In Technical English, this is achieved by focusing on how more advanced and developed study skills and an appreciation of the specialised vocabulary and technical language associated with Engineering and Computing can underpin and progress academic studies.

The aim of this module is to provide you with an understanding of key concepts, recent developments, and issues within the strategy of business organisations with an emphasis on a critically evaluative approach to application.

This module aims to strengthen and extend students’ mathematical skills, enable students to appreciate the use of mathematics as an engineering tool, and build up a students’ level of competence in applying mathematical methods and using software packages to identify and seek solutions to engineering problems.

This module aims to provide students with a developed understanding of project management within a technical context. It enables students to follow a simulated project through to the final report stage and presentation to those commissioning it. The module considers how management requirements set the parameters and establish the desired outcomes of a project.
