Degree Overview

Global forces are shaping our decisions on crucial issues in contemporary international politics.

On this course you will develop an in-depth understanding of some of the crucial developments impacting our world including the rise of China and India, the crisis in Syria, the challenges of facing terrorism and the persistence of poverty and inequality in the global south.

Choose from a wide range of modules including Global Comparative Politics, Corruption and its Avoidance, Making of a Global World, Politics of Nationalism and American Presidency.

Our teaching links theory and practice through simulations, engagement with House of Commons committees and the DMU Policy Commission – a supervised project-based module where staff and students work together to co-produce policy proposals in response to a contemporary political issue.

You will have the opportunity to go on field trips to the House of Commons and further afield to EU institutions in Brussels and our partner institution in Hong Kong.

Your Pathways

The International Foundation Certificate (IFC) is the first year of the four year undergraduate course. IFC is designed to help you gain extra skills in your subject area, as well as English Language, before you continue to year one of your chosen University undergraduate degree course.

Following successful completion of the IFC,  you will continue onto Year One of your degree directly with the University of your choice.

The International Year One is the perfect pathway if you want a undergraduate degree from a UK, EU or US University but do not meet the requirements for direct entry.

The IY1 course provides an intensive combination of first year University subject modules with English language skills.

Following successful completion of the IY1 you will continue onto your second year degree study directly with the University of your choice.

The International Year Zero is the first year of the four year undergraduate course. IYZ is designed to help you gain extra skills in your subject area, as well as English Language, before you continue to year one of your chosen University undergraduate degree course.

Following successful completion of the IYZ, you will continue onto Year One of your degree directly with the University of your choice.
