Degree Overview

In Geography you study the relationships between dynamic environments and population in different locations and at multiple scales. You will learn about major challenges facing the world, and develop creative skills in problem solving, presentation, and communication.

Our flexible course allows you to specialise in Human Geography or Physical Geography, or to combine elements of both.

Our teaching is based on the research carried out in the department and is focused on three broad themes: creating just communities and places, shaping environmental futures, and geospatial and digital methods.

BSc Geography will cover specialisms within these themes including:

glacial and hydrological landscapes and processes
biogeography and reconstructing past environments
natural hazards and risk and in the application of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and remote sensing
You will investigate issues in our changing world, including climate change, sustainability, land degradation and patterns of inequality. Throughout your degree there will be an emphasis on gaining practical skills and an emphasis on ‘doing’ geography.

Important
  • This course has been accredited by the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG).
  • If you do not meet our academic grade requirements for your chosen course, we can offer you an alternative route to begin your studies. Our international incorporated degrees will develop your subject knowledge, academic English and university level study skills.

Study Reasons

Studies by the Royal Geographical Society show that Geography degrees are an excellent basis for developing the wider graduate skills and attributes that many employers value: problem solving, IT and communication, analysis, and working with partners. Our students are also successful in securing places and funding for advanced postgraduate degrees.

Equally, many of our graduates build careers in areas that draw directly on the specialist geographical knowledge and skills they develop through their degree.

Flexible course allows you to specialise in Human Geography or Physical Geography, or to combine elements of both.

Your Pathways

The IS1 is the first year of a four year International Incorporated Bachelors. And its designed to strengthen your English language abilities and introduce core concepts and knowledge required at university study level.  Once you have successfully completed your studies you will continue the remaining stages of your degree directly with the University of your choice.
