Degree Overview

Being able to inspire future generations and see young children grow and develop with your help, is unlike any other job. Employment prospects are equally rewarding, with 100% of Roehampton’s BA Primary Education graduates in work or further study 15 months after leaving us.

Roehampton consistently outperforms other education degree providers in London, being ranked either top or second in the capital for education by the Complete University Guide in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

The course is designed to include at least 24 weeks’ school placement* experience. Roehampton’s vast network of 400 partner schools across London and the south east means we are able to ensure your placements are all within a reasonable commute, and that they include a diverse range of school types.

Completing this teacher training degree will give you Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

You will be taught by a supportive, highly driven team of academic staff, who will ensure you receive the very best preparation for going into teaching. Their approach, plus the experience of being out on placements, helps foster a terrific camaraderie among BA Primary Education students, unlike that on any other degree course. Need convincing? Watch this short video testimony by some current students.

You will focus on the subject of your choice, giving you the tools to teach in an area you are passionate about and enjoy. Roehampton is one of the only teacher training providers in the UK to offer every subject on the primary curriculum** as a specialism.

Study Reasons

The Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) awarded to graduates is, first and foremost, a qualification to teach in England. Many other countries will recognise it but, if your plan is to teach overseas, we recommend you contact the relevant authorities in your country of choice beforehand to check your eligibility.

This course is designed as a route into a teaching job. You will leave qualified to teach across the primary sector, whether you decide to work in an early years setting, independent or maintained school, academy or SEN (Special Educational Needs) school. Our careers team is available to support you from the start of your studies until after you graduate and find a job. Roehampton holds an annual jobs fair where you can find out about graduate opportunities and meet prospective employers from across London and the south east.
