Bangor is a popular destination to study because of its small size, friendly nature and connection with the outdoors.

The town of Bangor is very accessible to the students at the university. Most of the campus buildings and halls are a short walk from the city centre. The picturesque Bangor Pier is also a short walk away, where students can try the best scones in Wales!

Bangor is famous for its the scenery and the surrounding area, which are amongst the top reasons why students go there. The Snowdonia National Park is one such attraction.

Even if you are not the adventure type, there is still plenty to explore in the surrounding area. Try historical towns such as Beaumaris, Conwy and Caernarfon (all with their own castles), or scenic villages like Beddgelert and Betws-y-Coed.

In the summer months, stunning beaches on the nearby island of Anglesey are popular spots for sunbathing, swimming and days out with friends.

Canolfan Brailsford

The Canolfan Brailsford sports centre located in the main student village has a wide range of indoor and outdoor sporting facilities, whether you are interested in swimming, fencing, netball or lacrosse. 

Subject-specialist resources

The Bangor University campus is a hotbed for subject-specialist research, including a £3.5 research ship, the 45-acre Trebworth Botanic Garden and a natural history museum.

Bangor University's two student villages have a wide range of options. From en suite rooms to town houses and accommodation for Welsh speakers to same-sex halls.

At Bangor, students are not short on options for living. Whether you are looking for an en suite or standard room, a studio apartment or town house, the two student villages will take care of you.

And if you prefer same-sex halls or have special accessibility needs, there are options for you.

Both the student villages — St Mary’s Student Village and Ffriddoedd Student Village — are in walking distance of University buildings, giving easy access to lecture halls and libraries.

St Mary’s is closer to the city centre and high street, while Ffriddoedd is a 10-minute walk from the heart of the campus. 

Hall fees include all bills for internet, heating, electricity, hot water, Campus Life membership, gym membership and basic contents insurance.

Bangor University International College (BUIC) is a specialist embedded college offering integrated degree courses, where international students can begin their studies at Bangor University.

BUIC delivers the first stages of the International Incorporated Bachelors (IIB) and the International Incorporated Masters (IIM). Following successful completion of stage one at BUIC, you will continue your studies directly with Bangor University.
